Switching Insurers at Renewal

In some cases you may need to change the insurer when a policy renews. This commonly happens when the current insurer declines the renewal, or when another insurer should be selected based on the scheme’s rating.

SchemeServe can automatically re-run the rating process at renewal so that another insurer can be selected if the current one declines.

Enabling Insurer Switching at Renewal

To allow SchemeServe to quote with another insurer when the current one declines:

  1. Go to Admin.
  2. Select Schemes.
  3. Find and open the scheme you want to configure.
  4. Navigate to the Advanced tab.
  5. Tick the option:
“Re-run set lowest rates at renewal if any of the current insurers decline.”
  6. Click Save.

When this option is enabled, if the current insurer declines the renewal, SchemeServe will re-run the rating files across all available insurers and select the lowest valid rated insurer.

Important: Check the Default Insurer Setting

If a Default Insurer is set on the scheme’s Risk Group, SchemeServe may continue to use that insurer and will not switch to another insurer, even if another insurer has a valid renewal rating.

If you want the system to select the next available insurer:

  1. Go to Admin → Schemes.
  2. Open the relevant scheme.
  3. Navigate to the Risk Groups configuration.
  4. Check whether a Default Insurer is set.
  5. Remove the Default Insurer if you want the system to choose between available insurers based on rating.

How It Works

When correctly configured:

  • The existing insurer can be set to decline at renewal using a rule.
  • SchemeServe will re-run the rating files.
  • The system will check all available insurers.
  • The next valid rated insurer (usually the lowest rated) will be selected for the renewal quote.
