Rating file Standardisations

✔️ Keep your rating file in the same order as the rest of your schemes e.g.
1. “House keeping” at the top (e.g. sorting out postcodes, zones, formatting, versioning etc…)
2. Base rating
3. Loads & discounts
4. Commission
5. IPT & Fees

✔️ Use lookup files for rating instead of long rating tables
This keeps your rating file smaller & makes it easier to update rates

✔️ Use your rating file for as many calculations/formula as possible e.g.
If you need a formula in your documents, build it into your rating file, store it in a question and use that question's system ID in the documents. This keeps other areas of your scheme build cleaner.

✔️ Don't “hard code” your rates in anywhere e.g. scheme settings
Build all your rates and fees in your rating file - this allows them to be conditional

✔️ Build and test your rating file 1 rating table at a time
If you make a mistake, it's easier to find the mistake if you've only built and not tested one section
