Lookup files can be added within the Admin tab. These can be used to store answers for dropdowns from your question set, used in your rules or in your rating files.
Question Set
In the question set editor, you can create a “File Lookup” question. This allows you to populate the question’s options from one of the lookup files already uploaded to your site. It’s especially useful for large dropdowns, such as country lists, or for dropdowns that are likely to change regularly.
Within your question editor, select “File Lookup” as the question type and head to “value” on the panel on the left. From here you can select which file you would like to use as your answer options.

You can also use lookup files in your question triggers:

Option 1:
The top one is seeing if the value exists in the file at all. In this scenario you don´t need to enter a value in the third field on the right as it is basing the trigger on the answer being in the file at all.
Option 2:
Option 2 can be a lookup or a dropdown, it only cares if there is a match.
Option 3:
This is similar to option 1. It is checking if a specific answer is found from a lookup file then the action will be triggered.
Rules
Within your rule builder, you´re likely to use lookup files here too. A common reason for using lookup files in your rules will be to set custom policy numbers.
Using a lookup file in your rules is similar to using it in your question set. You can check if a row from your lookup file has been selected as answer then set an action e.g. refer.

Rating Files
Rating files will use lookups to search for answers to pull through rates, fees or commission. This means all your data can be stored in look up files which can easily be downloaded, amended and reuploaded. This makes changing rates incredibly quick!
SetRateFromLookup:MP_PropertyType|UN Property Rates
MP_PropertyTypeCalc|2025 Property Rates
- SetRateFromLookup:This is the command and can be amended to SetFee, SetCover or SetValue depending on the scenario
- MP_PropertyType: This is the system ID from your question set where you are getting the answer from
- UN Property Rates: This is the name of your lookup file (be sure to give it a prefix connected to your scheme name). One of the few times you will see spaces in your rating file
- MP_PropertyTypeCalc: This is the system ID where your result is going to go
- 2025 Property Rates: This is the column in your lookup file where you want to get the answer from. Another time where you will see spaces in your rating file
Lookup file example: UN Property Rates
Property Type |
2024 Property Rates |
2025 Property Rates |
Detached House |
0.3 |
0.35 |
Bungalow |
0.4 |
0.45 |
SetRateFromLookup:MP_PropertyType|UN Property Rates
MP_PropertyTypeCalc|2025 Property Rates
In this scenario, the rating file will go and find the answer to MP_PropertyType. If the answer is Detached house, it will set the rate of 0.35 into the field MP_PropertyTypeCalc
You´ll find using more lookup files in your rating file will keep your rating file smaller and much easier to manage.
